Staying safe: shoots, contracts and red flags

Most people in this industry are genuine, but a few simple habits keep every shoot safe and professional.

Before you book

  • Check the person has a real, consistent profile and reviews
  • Ask for examples of past work and references
  • Agree a clear brief covering location, time, and wardrobe
  • Tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to finish

Bring a chaperone

You are entitled to bring a friend or chaperone to any shoot, especially a first one. A professional will never have a problem with this. If someone pressures you to come alone, treat it as a red flag.

Trust your instincts

You can end any shoot the moment you feel uncomfortable, with no explanation needed. Never share financial details, and be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed fame or asking for money up front.
